I love everything she does.) It was such a delight to answer the questions that it inspired me to create a set of journaling prompts for you for the month of May!

Last week I held master classes for both Potentializers and Appreciators- two types of entrepreneurs who have not yet mastered the combo of more than enough joy and more than enough revenue on the Joy|Money Matrix™. 

Years ago I was working at fashion trade shows for various designers. Those were long, hard days and I was making a piddly day rate but I did it to learn the industry, stay on top of trends and make contacts.

The first time I thought I was fat was on the bus in fifth grade.

My little thighs were spreading out and sticking to the brown vinyl seat that had, in places, been duct taped together.

It was a hot late spring afternoon and this was North Carolina. The windows were down to cool us off but I was more concerned about the size of my legs than anything else. 

I'm interviewing Nat Kimber, an agent with the Rights Factory, about what aspiring non-fiction authors need to know to make it from draft to book deal. (There's a lot more that comes after the deal, but that's fodder for another class.)

Sometimes, it feels like the entire world is designed to make us feel terrible about ourselves.

Not fit enough, not rich enough, not smart enough, not quick enough, not fresh, new, hot or “original” enough.

I've been in business for over 10 years. Some years I've felt like a pro. Other years I've felt like an impostor. 

Some years I have made tons of money (multiple six figures), other years what felt like hardly any (under $30k).  Some years I've outspent my earnings and other years I've saved. Some years I've been proud of my accomplishments and at other times I've wondered if I have any talent whatsoever for what I'm trying to do. 

Right before Charlotte was born, we bought and moved into our house upstate near Clinton Corners and Millbrook. It's a sweet little house and a landmark according to the local Clinton Historical Society.

In the past week I've done some meditations and journaling to get to the heart of my heart's desires. 

What do I really want? 

What do I desire that I'm barely aware of? 

Which of my desires are not really my true desires? 

How can I know? 

Coats are my thing. I have four different leopard print coats alone (one rain jacket, one topper, one cropped and one full length double breasted number) and a special closet (in closet-challenged NYC) just to hold them.

How many of you want to write a book? A memoir, novel, how to, self-help? 

Methinks many of us are raising our hands. I'm here to tell you that you can. And you will. And right now is a very good time to start. Here's why:

This past week was Yom Kippur- the Jewish day of atonement. I'm not Jewish and I know that cultural appropriation is the new favorite critique to levy at folks, but I think it's a great concept regardless of your religious tradition.*
